ANDY DEVINE (1905-1977) – Inscription (“To my friend, Harry – What can I say – Thanks, Andy Devine 1976″) on original 1949 re-issue 8″ x 10” scene still from FRISCO SAL. The prolific, rountund comic (real name Andrew Vabre Devine) was a successful college football player, before landing his first role in 1926’s THE COLLEGIANS. His trademark, hiigh-pitched raspy voice was the result of a childhood accident. In a career spanning six decades, Devine’s appeared in over four hundred films, radio programs and television shows, including 112 episodes as Guy Madison’s sidekick, “Jingles P. Jones” in the popular WILD BILL HICKOK (1951-58). Devine, active in until his death, passed away from leukemia on February 18, 1977.
