CAPTAIN BIJOU MOUSE PAD

HAPPY TO SEE HOPPY - WILLIAM BOYD (known to millions of western movie fans as HOPALONG CASSIDY) makes a personal appearance in the early 1950s much to the delight of both children and parents alike. The American public had not seen anything quite like the Hoppy craze of the 1950s -- every imaginable article of clothing, food product or toy bore the Hopalong Cassidy image. To be sure there had been licensed products of other movie cowboys stars before, but none had swept the country with such an overwhelming tidal wave of demand as Hopalong Cassidy. The difference was television. Boyd, after securing the rights to the character he had played on the screen since 1935, had seen the demand for the franchise dissapate by the late 1940s as the demand for "B" westerns was eroded by rising production costs and the advent of television. Wisely, Boyd, sold 52 of the 66 Hopalong Cassidy westerns to NBC, and created video's first cowboy star. In addition, he, along with early television stars like MIlton Berle, helped proved the viability -- and profitability -- of television as an advertising medium.

So great was the demand for Hopalong Cassidy, that Boyd produced an additional 52 half-hour shows for television and starred in a weekly Hoppy radio series on CBS from 1951-1953. Roy Rogers and Gene Autry would soon follow suit with their own popular series, but it was Hoppy who rode the television trail to great popularity first. Now, all 66 Hopalong Cassidy theatrical features have been digitally remastered and released on DVD in the Hopalong Cassidy Ultimate Collector's Edition, which comes in a special collector's tin patterned after a 1950s Hoplaong Cassidy lunch box. Loaded with bonus materials, buckaroos and buckarettes can saddle up and ride the trails of western adventure once again with Hoppy, Johnny, Lucky, Windy, Gabby and the men of the Bar 20 for only $54.99.
